A couple of quick updates to progress.
First off, I have the prologue mapped out. Meaning, I know how the story will generally progress and end. It is not scripted or thumbnailed out yet, but I can start working on the first “season” since I have the foundations.
Second, I’m starting to actually update and make the comic site. I think I’ve linked it before, but it has always shown a blank page. No more! I made a temporary background and added a front-facing message while I work on the site format behind the scenes. I’ll be doing a more complete/polished background of the temporary background for the finished site.
I hope to have the prologue pages done soon, since I am working on them as I work on the site.
Well, Friday came and went with nothing to show. /:
For now, a status report:
-Character designs for Frog King are pretty much done, just some extra characters that need to be drawn now.
-Lettering font is about 2/3 of the way done. Currently, I need to finish loading in the symbols and do the kerning (character spacing) for specific pairs.
-No pages done, since character designs, etc. aren’t done yet. Should start working on them this week, since I still need to script the story. Teaser is sketched, need to ink/color/render to post it.
-Not a damn thing on the website. I may just post to Tapas first so I can have some time to work on the website and get it pretty.
-Some side work on the Gauntlet is done. I need to do some research for building layouts and actually write the story, but problems have been resolved for that story.
Although I’m out of school for the summer, I feel tired and just want to play some video games. Gonna try to get more work done with this stuff though.
Tentative “cover” for the previously mentioned Gauntlet comic, trying to get some idea on the look of the forest and general character shapes for the comic. (I promise, she’s not so towering in reality) Still toying with how certain magic will look, if there’s not an immediate effect like with fire and what not. Kinda wish I did some more rocks in front of the bushes, since I hid the other ones so well…
I’ll probably end up redoing the text font if I do use this as a cover, just gotta find some time to make another font (or more) that’ll fit this comic better.
Some of you may have seen me (more) active about 6-8 years on other sites. For the last six years, I’ve been working a job that’s inhibited my ability to write on draw, mostly due to time constraints from my work hours. I have since left that job, and I am currently unemployed until I go back to school in January. Until then, I can dedicate myself full time to creating new stories. : D
The current story I am working on is The Gauntlet (No relation to the Marvel comics or the games). Set in an alternate universe (henceforth referred to as “the Shadow Song Universe” or “SSong Universe”), the Gauntlet has been running for centuries. Stories of the most famous Gauntlets and Heroes have been passed down for generations: Theseus and the Minotaur; King Arthur with Excalibur; the Witch in the sweet house, Hansel, and Gretel. Entry has always been exclusive — either you get invited to join, or you manage to stumble across the Gauntlet by accident. Although the world has changed much since those times, a different Gauntlet is still run each year with different creatures now intentionally contracted to take up the different roles available and locations carefully selected for their appeal.
I am still working on the general script and characters, but I already have the location and overall story in mind. I plan for this to be a bit of a series, featuring a different gauntlet each “volume”. While I don’t think I’ll be posting any raw draft stuff, I do plan on posting some things in the next few weeks as I work on scripting before publishing the comic. Be sure to watch my Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook for progress updates up to publishing. [:
